ORDER OF AL ASKARI

The Order of Al Askari or Order of Military Merit was established by King Mohammed V in 1955. To recognise extraordinary Service within all ranks of the Moroccan Armed Forces, the Police Force, Auxiliary forces and to Foreigners who have distinguished themselves by Courage or Military Valour, in providing service towards safeguarding Morocco's Sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The numbers of each class awarded are limited as follows: ‑

Grand Cordon         10

Grand Officier         30

Commandeur           150

Officier                   500

Chevalier                5,000

Badge ‑ Gold multi‑rayed circular badge, surmounted by the Royal Crown. The Green enamel central disc is overlaid by a standing lion with sword in gold.

Star ‑ Similar to the Badge but larger.

Ribbon ‑ Red with two green stripes towards the centre.

How to wear ‑ The Badge is attached to the bow of the Sash which is worn over the right shoulder. The Star is pinned onto the left breast.

VIP recipients ‑ HRH Prince Khalid bin Sultan Abdul Aziz, awarded the Grand Cordon.
