ORDER OF INDEPENDENCE

Instituted in 1972 following Independence in 1971

After the Collar of Independence this is the highest award of the UAE.

Those eligible for the award are UAE Nationals and Foreigners who have rendered service to the UAE.

Badge ‑ A blue enamel central disc depicts two Arab riders on Camels surrounded by narrow ring of red, green, white and black enamel. This is encircled by a gold border containing eight rubies which is surrounded by a ten armed gold star. Each arm of the star is embellished with an emerald.

Star ‑ Ten pointed gold star, with an inner circle of ten rubies. The central disc is a ten pointed multi‑rayed star with the National emblem in the centre.

Ribbon ‑ Green, red, black and white repeating stripes.

How to wear ‑ The Badge is attached to the bow of the Sash which is worn over the right shoulder. The Star is pinned onto the left breast.
